KEEP Liberia recently welcomed Ambassadors from Ireland, European Union, France, Sweden, and Germany to the Madina Reading Room, offering a firsthand look at how community-based learning spaces are transforming literacy outcomes for children.

The delegation received a warm welcome from KEEP Liberia staff and the Madina Public School administration before engaging directly with students. Ambassadors listened to children read aloud, joined interactive activities, and observed how the reading room fosters confidence, curiosity, and a love of books.

Beyond the lively reading sessions, the visit included in-depth discussions with KEEP Liberia about education service delivery in Grand Cape Mount County, challenges faced by schools, and opportunities to scale community reading spaces. Diplomats noted the enthusiasm of students and the powerful effect of providing accessible, child-friendly environments for learning.

The Madina Reading Room is part of KEEP Liberia’s mission to expand safe, supportive learning spaces across the country. By witnessing the initiative in action, the delegation gained a clearer understanding of the practical impact of community reading programs and the potential for deeper partnership. Their presence helps raise the profile of local education efforts and underscores the importance of nurturing environments where children can thrive.
KEEP Liberia has already established 48 reading rooms in 14 counties, distributing thousands of books and inspiring a culture of reading nationwide. The Madina Reading Room continues this legacy, serving as a model for how literacy can empower communities and open doors to opportunity.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to the Embassy of Ireland in Liberia for coordinating this site visit, and to the delegations from France, Sweden, Germany, and the European Union for taking the time to meet with our students and staff.

KEEP Liberia will continue documenting learning outcomes for its programs and share findings with partners and stakeholders. We welcome opportunities to deepen collaboration with embassies, development partners, and local education authorities to expand reading rooms and literacy support across Liberia.
