KEEP continues the promotion of reading campaign to encourage a culture of reading among young learners in Liberia.
Over the last 2 months, KEEP has been conducting reading sessions at its reading room at the New Life Christian Academy.
A part of the goal of the campaign been to raise awareness among young learners to develop a culture of reading and to get parents more actively involved in the education of their children and to read to and with their children.
In addition, the strategy of the reading campaign has been to bring in parents to read to the children, listen to their pronunciation, obtain feedback from them and gauge their comprehension skills while reading.
A boost and endorsement to its “I Can Read” reading campaign occurred on July 23, 2016 when the KEEP family was honored by the President of Liberia, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who came by its reading room on Duport road in Paynesville to read to the children.
President Sirleaf Commended the team for the good work being done in Liberia and encouraged them to continue. She admonished the children to read more and to listen to their parents and teachers.
President Sirleaf read an excerpt from the book “I Love Liberia” written by a Liberian female author of children’s books Wayetu Moore called “ I Love Liberia” an apt selection given the imminent 169th Independence celebration taking place on July 26th.
President Sirleaf also encouraged the children to love their country and grow up nationalistic Liberians who will positively contribute to its development.
KEEP was proud to have two donors at the reading session to read to the children and meet the President, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Mr. Benjamin Solanke. They also volunteered several hours that day reading to the children and we had such fun!
