The Kids Educational Engagement Project (KEEP Liberia) has strengthened its Promoting Literacy Pillar in River Gee County with the dedication of two new reading rooms and the donation of more than 100 benches to Demonstration Public School and the Gee Foundation.

The mini-libraries are part of KEEP Liberia’s ongoing push to increase access to books and safe learning spaces for students and community members. The organization says the facilities will provide opportunities to strengthen literacy skills, broaden knowledge and cultivate a lifelong habit of reading.
At the dedication ceremony, Program Coordinator Amos Doe urged students, parents and community members to make full use of the reading rooms and to form reading clubs to help improve pupils’ reading and learning skills. “Making reading a habit plays a vital role in their educational sojourn,” he said.

Student representative for Demonstration Public School Beatrice Mulbah thanked KEEP Liberia for investing in the community’s literacy journey and pledged to mobilize her peers to use the reading rooms “to the best of their abilities,” ensuring the initiative achieves its intended impact.

The County Educational Officer for River Gee County Jallah Sammy commended KEEP Liberia for the timely intervention, promising regular visits to the reading rooms and a commitment to monitor the reading clubs that will be established to reinforce the project’s sustainability.
The PTA chairperson expressed excitement about the new facilities, noting that many parents never had the opportunity to attend school and welcome seeing their children gain access to such learning resources. “The creation of the reading room will help students build their reading experience and improve their learning skills,” the chairperson said.

This marks KEEP Liberia first initiative in River Gee county. To date, the organization has constructed 48 reading rooms (mini-libraries) in fourteen out of the fifteen counties of Liberia, continuing to demonstrate that literacy is not just about reading books, it is about empowering communities, opening doors to opportunity, and shaping brighter futures for Liberia’s children.

We extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to every KEEPer for making this project possible for the students of River Gee County.
